| Site Selection
Well drained soil containing both sandy and organic material to provide proper food and root development. Avoid sites that are exposed to cold winter wind or early morning winter sun. Planting Instructions Install the plant so that the top of the root ball is 2 to 4 inches above the existing ground level. Cover roots with sandy top soil. Saturate soil with water, add organic food and mulch heavily with pine needles. Maintenance Assure and maintain a proper pH of 7.0 + or - 5. Test soil to determine fertility. Do not allow fertilizer to contact roots or foilage. Maintain proper soil moisture of about 1 inch per week, depending on soil type. Use insecticides only as needed. In late fall, spray with anti-dessicant (Vapor gard or Wilt Pruf) to prevent winter damage. Never use any type of mechanical device to prune boxwoods. Brush plants heavily in winter and remove any debris from interior. Break small branches, as needed, to allow light and air into the interior of the plant. Never use sawdust for mulch. |
